Blog One - The Week the Women Went
Posted by Doug on Jun 05/07 13:45 PMWell here it is! Paperny films picked Hardisty out of many towns to film a documentary called, The Week the Woment Went. CBC bought into the concept and so it all begins. All the women over 18 (well, most of them) left town this morning to enjoy a 7 day retreat to Canmore where they will get massages, golf, climb mountains, and otherwise enjoy a well deserved rest. They all loaded up on the bus this morning and headed out. They took their cell phones so they can't call any of the men at home unless they get permission, or rather, so they can film the conversation on both ends of the line. The men, I might add, are home with the children trying to balance work and family and doing a large community project that I can't tell you about until the women see it when they return.
It will be an interesting social experiment as many people will realize that women dont just cook and clean, but run businesses, healthcare and education in this town. Women are also the social network.
Women are the social network the knits the town together and with them gone, we shall see.
Today we already had a group begin phase one of the project. I managed to keep the house fairly clean, do all the yard work and still got Austin in to nap at his scheduled time, and fed on a reasonable clock. We have been having a lot of fun even if we were grocery shopping when he had a bad, really bad diaper, case his dad forget the diaper bag. We bbq'd for a many of the bunch who began the work today (I figure is was the least I could do since I couldn't help out today) and we watch Ottawa win while we watched the a gagle of kids play.
All is going well so far, though I really miss Sue . . . it is so quiet around here at night without her.
The men are coming together, the film crews are great . . . especially ours, and so far everything is on schedule . . . but it is only day one. Keep checking in for more postings.
